Random Feature: Progressive Rock

Just a quick bite and several videos.

I was talking to the guitarist earlier today, and we were discussing song choices. We ended up with Audioslave - Show Me How to Live and The Mars Volta - Cotopaxi.

A Progressive-Rock band, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, as frontman of The Mars Volta, boasts an exceedingly high tenor range, probably shocking for one when he hears it for the first time. The bassist, Juan Alderete had, prior, worked with Paul Gilbert on Racer X; Scarified (below). He had also played for Metallica for a time. He's a beast on the bass. His tone is pretty much perfect- fat, thick, yet, precise- and it does not cut into the frequency of the other instruments. His skill is off the scale as well- just listen to the chorus of Cotopaxi.

This video isn't prog rock but i wanted some PG!

Omar Rodríguez-López, the guitarist of the same band, has a side project:

The drums and bass in this set are tight as hell, The breakdown is awesome. I don't even know what genre this is, but its crazy.
